Sudbury District Nurse Practitioner Clinics

Why I Love my Job

I am one of the medical secretaries at the clinic. I am the first contact, when patients come to the clinic. Many of the patients that have come to register at the clinic have not had any medical care for many years. They cannot find a health care provider and have been using walk-in clinics and the emergency department for their health care. Many have chronic illnesses such as diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease, etc and do not have any follow-up care from these facilities.

Working as a medical secretary at the SDNPC has been very rewarding. I love the fact that patients that had no previous health care now have a health care provider looking after all aspects of their health care.

what our community says...

  • “Six months prior to the launching of the SDNPC I was already looking for a nurse practitioner, so I was very happy to be accepted into the new clinic on Riverside Drive.”   “I have so far met two of the nurse practitioners at the clinic - the one who conducted my intake interview, as well as my regular clinician.  I had been hoping to receive excellent health care and I must say my expectations have been exceeded.  The level of competence of the NPs is impressive.  In addition, during appointments, I feel no time pressure, and my clinician really listens to my concerns and takes a holistic view of my situation.  Finally, the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed - most conducive, in my view, to an optimal client-practitioner relationship.  It brings to mind the image of the family practitioners of days long gone by.”   “I understand that the Sudbury clinic is the first of its kind in Ontario.  Many more are needed as this is certainly a winning model of health care delivery!”
